Painting the Wild Orchid in Sumi-e
The orchid is one of the fundamentals subject learned by the beginning ink painting student. Long, free arm motions are done for the leaves, while more controlled movements are needed for the flower and its center. The orchid is one of the “Four Gentlemen” in the Chinese and Japanese ink painting tradition. Each “gentleman” has associated virtues and seasons. While the orchid is easily learned, it is very difficult to create a well constructed, expressive and artistic painting.

Question by Cal: How did the advent of photography and/or the introduction of Japanese Ukiyo-e prints?
How did the advent of photography and/or the introduction of Japanese Ukiyo-e prints influence the impressionists in their abandoning of the stylistic characteristics of traditional painting? Your opinion?
Best answer:
Answer by Starmoss
Photography meant they didn’t have to paint realistically anymore. Before painting was about keeping a record, photography pushed it to the edge so it had to expand into something new.
Ukiyo-e prints are stylistically very different to anything they had seen before. But it wasn’t just Ukiyo-e prints, it was anything foreign. Chinese prints, African masks etc. It was a new aesthetic and therefore intriguing. It showed them that there were modes of artistic representation that were not within the western canon.

“This study of Japanese ink painting is as much about philosophy and poetry as it is about putting brush to paper. Artisan Okamoto clearly describes the unique materials and techniques involved, and she beautifully illustrates each lesson. The highly readable writing style is personal, poetic, and inspiring….Well recommended.”—Library Journal. “Excellent …for middle school through adult levels.”—School AA.

Goldfish Ink Painting 水墨画金魚

Kids here used to have goldfish breeding in an old brazier, which was dumped in a backyard. At the beginning of the summer vacation, they came to see goldfish and to give foods every morning. But when the summer has gone, they almost forgot about these tiny fish. And in the autumn festival season, they got fun for “Kingyo sukui”, catch goldfish, but it didn’t helo to recall their goldfish.. The next spring comes, they happened to find goldfish growing in mossed brazier. die hard fish.

Question by BW: How do I clean Japanese walls?
Our walls here are covered in a kind of painted wallpaper that’s soft enough to gouge a groove in with your finger. I’ve been in my apartment for a number of years and when I moved a poster I noticed how yellow the walls have become. I’ve only ever had painted brick walls at home so I’m a little uncertain about how to clean the walls here in Japan. Is it okay to just use soap and water?

ONE SHOT LIVE–TAKE FIVE…..Japanese Painting
Hello! Thanks for stopping by. This is the 17th in aseries of videos designed for relaxation / stress relief. As the title partially suggests, these are (wherever possible) unedited, not retouched, not dubbed, widescreen, five minute (sometimes more, but never less) videos that were shot with a tripod-mounted, static, high definition camera that shoots at an eye-popping 60 frames per second (but I sometimes use 30 fps, as I did here, for the sake of reducing uploading and processing times, to reduce or eliminate the annoying stop-start stop-start during viewing, and because the quality is still very high high-def). Here are two hints to help improve your viewing experience: First, click on the HD button in the lower righthand corner just below the video image, and this will give you the largest and highest quality image available on YouTube. Click on HD again if you see no improvement and/or it causes the video to keep stopping and starting. Second: If you are using a laptop computer, try tipping the screen back and away from you about 10 degrees for improved image. The closer your screen is to 90 degrees (straight up & down), the more washed-out and flat will be your viewing experience. I am hopeful that with some of the aforementioned fine tuning on your part, you will almost feel like you are right there in the scene. I have traveled many miles, and hiked considerable distances to bring you what I believe are (in as many instances as possible) settings of undisturbed …
