Question by BW: How do I clean Japanese walls?
Our walls here are covered in a kind of painted wallpaper that’s soft enough to gouge a groove in with your finger. I’ve been in my apartment for a number of years and when I moved a poster I noticed how yellow the walls have become. I’ve only ever had painted brick walls at home so I’m a little uncertain about how to clean the walls here in Japan. Is it okay to just use soap and water?

Katsushika Hokusai (1760—1849), was a Japanese artist, ukiyo-e painter and printmaker of the Edo period . In his time he was Japan’s leading expert on Chinese painting. Born in Edo (now Tokyo), Hokusai is best-known as author of the woodblock print series Thirty-six Views of Mount Fuji, (c. 1831), which includes the iconic and internationally recognized print, The Great Wave off Kanagawa.
Hokusai is considered one of the outstanding figures of Japanese woodblock printing, sometimes referred to as ukiyo-e.
I find this to be an exceptionally striking image. Many do, it is rightfully famous.

I actually have a replica of that painting over my bed in my apartment.
It’s called the “Great wave at Kanagawa”
I’ve studied the Japanese culture for a while and admire their history very much.
R&S question: There is about equal proof for God and pixies.

I’m good at remebering things. And i have like three lists anyway.
I know i need to change them, that’s why I asked this question.
Best answer:
Answer by WhoAmI?
Half of them are completely unoriginal, and the rest are completely unheard of. So, I guess that’s a decent mix. Character names are highly overrated anyways, I believe. But, you have twenty-four characters that you need to keep track of? Good luck with that one!

Question by Ben: How painful are Japanese traditional tattoos compared to normal tattoos?
I’m an American, but have lived in Japan for 2 years. I’ve travelled around, tried to learn the language and am actually taking a Japanese class soon. I want to get my 1st tattoo, and being how I’m in Japan, I only thought it would be right to get a traditional Japanese tattoo done. It’s done with bamboo and what not. I did also hear that a real Japanese tattoo is quite a bit more painful.
The plan for the tattoo is, 2 Kanji symbols, about palm size, starting at the triceps and going down. I want it to look like it was painted on. Ya, Japanese symbols are a little clique, but given my living situation and current lifestyle, I find it suitable. I can see myself at a bar, 10 years from now and someone is dogging on me for having Japanese symbols, but Oh! Mine were done traditionally, in Japan.
So what kind of pain am I talking about? I’ve never had a tattoo, but I’m avoiding any bone, and trying to stay on the meaty part of the triceps. My arms are pretty big (I’m a big boy, haha).
Any advice would be very helpful.

Question by leapyearmama: Painting by Miwa Koide/Autumntime in Japan?
I purchased a painting at a yard sale. It is signed in the lower right hand corner Miwa Koide. The left corner is written Autumntime in Japan. There are some papers on the back of the painting with Japanese writing. I was wondering if anyone would know what the value of this painting would be. It is very beautiful and flawless.

Answer by Benji
Ive done this before – you place a huge peice of paper on the ground, and to start of, use bamboo dipped in ink and just play about with all the different techniques you could do
When you get better, you could use more detail bamboo with different ends, more sharper, blunter etc.
Use bambo and ink – works well when i do it!
Hope ive helped!
