How do I clean Japanese walls?

Monday, May 31st, 2010

Our walls here are covered in a kind of painted wallpaper that’s soft enough to gouge a groove in with your finger. I’ve been in my apartment for a number of years and when I moved a poster I noticed how yellow the walls have become. I’ve only ever had painted brick walls at home so I’m a little uncertain about how to clean the walls here in Japan. Is it okay to just use soap and water?

I need advice about girls…?

Sunday, May 30th, 2010

I am a 13 year-old boy, and I want to make a painting to a 19 year-old girl. She is half Japanese, half Brazilian. (I don’t know if that helped…) Anyway, I was thinking of making her a portrait of herself. So the question is, do girls like seeing themselves in portraits? For example, They’ll think they don’t look like that at all! and etc. OR, do you think I should make her a painting of nature, or something else other than portraits of her.

Obrigado in Advance! (That’s "Thanks" in Portuguese)

P.S. I am a very good painter. At least everyone thinks so. And I know they are not just saying that. I have a art teacher who thinks I’m magnificent, and the art teacher is HARDCORE.

Recently I lost the back seat that went in our famliy’s Samurai. I am looking for either a Suzuki Samurai back seat or another car with a back seat that will fit. I do NOT want to buy one new. Let me know if you know any vehicles, so I can call some junk yards.

What are the Design and Arts universities available in Japan?

Sunday, May 30th, 2010

I am a polytechnic guaduate in Singapore and am looking to get my degree in Japan. I am truely impressed by their creativeness and culture of that country and believe it would be beneficial for me to advance my studies there. I am looking for design and art degree programme which would be recognised internationally as I plan to return back home to work. I plan to work in the creative industry (most probably advertising) later on. I have been bowsing through some web sites and even approached the Japanese Association in Singapore with little success of finding what I want.
I am looking for a place which teaches fine arts, design and advertising related subjects. Please help me : ) I truely do value your answers

Can anyone help me identify these antiques?

Sunday, May 30th, 2010

I have 2 saucers and 2 tea cups that have ‘Fine Porcelain’ and a ‘TG’ and Japan stamped on the bottom of the tea cup.

Then I have a real small tea cup and saucer with the number 890 etched on the bottom of the tea cup. The tea cup looks like gold plating on the inside. It is the color white and green with painted gold dots and a golden outline of a leaf. Can anyone help me identify these, and are they worth any money?

Geisha white face powder?

Saturday, May 29th, 2010

Um can someone help me please? I’m going to dress up as a geisha, but I don’t know how geishas get their face to look so pale. What do they use and where can I get it? I’m fairly certain that just foundation alone won’t make it look pale and solid enough. Someone please help me! Also, please don’t recommend costume paint, because I want it to look real, not cheap. Thank you!

extra piece in oriental tea set?

Saturday, May 29th, 2010

i bought an oriental tea set recently. (the kind w/o handles) and there was an extra piece which i don’t know the use of. it’s small about 2 inches, the same color and design as the tea pot, has a small handle, and is smaller at the oppening than the middle. the tea set was made in Japan if that helps, may be hand painted, definatly antique. any ideas? i collect these tea sets, but haven’t come across one of these. i’ve only been doing it for a few years, so any advise in that area would be appreciated also. ( mostly all antiques) thanks so much!

How difficult is it to learn calligraphy?

Saturday, May 29th, 2010

My brother in-law is in the army stationed in Korea. He is craving letters and I want to have fun with it. My penmanship is equivalent to a doctors when they fill out prescriptions. Basically my plan is to learn calligraphy and get some very feminine stationary and send him a silly letter. I am a 31 year old man. I know when I was in the marines we got our mail in front of everyone else so hopefully it is the same for him. I am very artistic if that helps.
